Quarry Park parkade
Client goal

Three levels down, ready for the tower above

Aldermoor needed a finished underground parkade so their tower contractor could start on a fixed date, with no room for delays below grade.

‍

At a glance
  • Client goal: Parkade ready for tower start
  • Delivery deadline: Tower crane mobilization date
  • Site constraint: High groundwater near the Bow
The challenge

Digging deep next to the river

The site sits close to the Bow River, and the water table was higher than the geotechnical report expected. The excavation filled faster than a normal pump setup could keep up.

‍

We brought in a dewatering system within a week, adjusted the shoring design with the engineer, and kept the concrete pours on schedule through a cold December.

How we built it

Heated, hoarded, poured on time

Our equipment team ran the excavators, pumps, hoarding and heaters as one operation, so the concrete crews found every level dry, warm and ready.

‍

Key milestones
  • Excavation complete / Week 9 / Dewatering running, shoring signed off
  • Lowest slab poured / Week 21 / Poured under hoarding at minus 18
  • Handed to tower crew / June 2023 / Parkade complete on the planned date
Final result

A dry parkade, on the date

The tower contractor mobilized on the planned date. The parkade has stayed dry since, including through the 2024 spring runoff.

‍

By the numbers
  • 312 / Parking Stalls / Across three underground levels
  • 14 m / Excavation Depth / Shored and dewatered
  • 10 Months / Dig to Handover / Through a full winter
Quote Up
Three levels down, next to the river, through a December freeze, and the tower crew still started on the planned day.

Digging below grade?

Excavation, shoring and dewatering set the pace for everything above them. We can review your geotechnical report before you price the job. First conversations cover soil, water and access.
